Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Operating North Star’s tractor and lowboy equipment trailers, moving equipment between various projects in Calgary and surrounding area.
  • Deliver aggregates and other material as determined by the Transportation Manager. Safely Load and unload equipment and secures loads for transportation as required.

  • Perform daily preventative maintenance inspections and safety checks to proactively identify any potential mechanical issues and advise the Transportation Manager.
  • Keep truck in a clean and professional condition at all times.
  • Complete daily accurate pre-inspections and post-inspections regulatory logs, Field Level Hazard Assessment sheets for all worksites, transportation timesheets and submit to the Transportation Manager.
  • Ensures truck/trailer are returned to the company yard full of fuel at the end of each day.
  • Behave in a manner that ensures the safety of themselves, their co-workers and others on the work sites.
  • Attend and participate in toolbox and safety meetings as scheduled.
  • Report unsafe work, unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries and near misses to supervisor and participate in the investigative process.
  • Comply with established company policies and procedures and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Assist other employees when required.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience moving Heavy Equipment.
  • Must have Valid Class 1 driver’s license and provide a current 5 year drivers abstract.
  • Must be able to drive standard (18 speed).
  • Familiarity with Cummings Diesel engines preferred.
  • Active Standard First Aid Certification is considered an asset.
  • Active Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification.
  • Ability to identify and describe mechanical issues on the truck/trailer.
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment.
  • Must have own transportation with strong knowledge of Calgary and surrounding area.
  • Self-motivated and able to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated dedication and reliability.
  • Strong problem solving and decision making capabilities.
  • Must be able to work as a member of a greater team.

 

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be available to work long hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have CSA approved safety boots.
  • Able to sit for a long periods of time and look over shoulder.
  • Able to climb up and down from equipment.
  • Must be able to work out of town.
  • Must be able to lift chains and boomers of all sizes.

 

Education:

  • Safety courses will be required upon hiring.
  • Additional education or work experience considered an asset.
